• Birth certificates, marriage applications, death certificates

• Military records, obtained from dept of defense

• Government records such as bureau of census, social security administration, IRS

• Private institutional records, hospitals, churches, cemeteries

• Private employers, unions, trade associations

• Civic and fraternal organizations

• Family records such as family bibles, family trees, correspondences

• Court records of adoptions, marriage dissolution, probate administration

• Genealogical companies (DNA)
